About Us

We are Pie & Tech (in case you didn’t notice)

Who? Why? What?

Who are we?

We like Pie, we like Technology, hence Pie & Tech.

Why are we here?

We’re on a mission to help smaller companies run Security, Technology, and Operations.

What don’t we do?

We don’t make Pies. That should be left to pastry chefs or home bakers. This means we can focus on Technology and Security.

What do we do?

Technology is a common requirement for most small, medium, and large companies.

Where there’s Technology, Security is also paramount. Not all companies have the funds or even the need to hire full-time senior personnel to oversee and drive strategy around Technology and Security.

We’re here, like a warm comforting jug of gravy or custard, to provide as much or as little leadership and strategic oversight for Security, Technology, and Operations.

We can help with the pastry, make sure it stands up to the filling, and we can help with the gravy or the custard too.

Our Story

Where it all began…

Well, it begins now, and if you’re only just reading this, it still begins now because technology has probably just changed again… yep, there it goes.

Now for an unintentional history lesson…

Having worked in technology during the best years (not going to say the exact number because that would make us feel old), there’s not much we haven’t seen. We’re not complacent though, and this is a very important message, especially when thinking about what we’re yet to see.

We need to get things done

We’ve got experience from the “wild west” years. In these times the world was all hands on deck trying to advance technologies as quickly as possible, but often left running through thick custard because technologies actually made it difficult to do things quickly. Truth be told, we were probably all a bit complacent back then.

We need to do things securely

We’ve experienced the emergence of genuine cyber security threats, internal and external, local and remote, physical and logical, and all the other flavours. Fortunately, regulatory bodies eventually got a grip (for now), welcome Cyber Essentials, SOC-2, ISO27001…

We need resiliency

We’ve experienced the emergence of cloud services, which also became a bit “wild west”. Companies were popping up all over the place in the race to provide 99.99999999999999… availability as cheap as possible. Amazon, Microsoft, and Google have been instrumental here, and it’s a matter of opinion as to whether this is a good or a bad thing. Our opinion is neutral going on positive. The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) have helped keep the pie lids on.

We need legislation

We’ve experienced the birth of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation, and how this has complemented the UK Data Protection Act (DPA). The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) have helped the world adjust and integrate new practices in compliance with GDPR.

We need JavaScript… do we?… (sorry, bit of a tech tangent)…

For the more technical audience, we’ve also experienced how backend, middleware, and frontend technologies have evolved. In the early years when personal computers were slow and expensive, backend servers were busier. As personal computers and mobile smartphones have become an every day necessity with underused hardware, frontends are now busier. We might be overusing the phrase “wild west”, but it’s still relevant when considering the plethora of (almost viral) JavaScript frameworks that exist today.

We need to do stuff with AI

Now we’re all going on a new journey with the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is altering the landscape once again, you could say it’s a bit “wild west”. Contrary to what we might see and hear, the human species is still quite resilient, so we believe we can adapt for the better.

We need experience to satisfy needs

So what are we trying to say is… we’ve seen a lot, we’ve lived a lot, and we’ve experienced a lot. We want to share our experience with the world, and help small to medium sized companies to not only be resilient to change, but embrace change for stability and growth. Phew! Got there in the end.

Some more Pie Puns

Sorry, couldn’t resist…

We don’t make pies and eat them for you:

  • This would be unhealthy for us.
  • You would go hungry missing out on the joys and the fulfilment that pie can bring.

We are here to help you make pies and enjoy them (even if you’re not a pie eater):

  • We can help source the ingredients that you need.
  • We can provide a cookbook.
  • We can work together on new recipes.
  • We can help cook the pies.
  • You can eat the pies and share them with us (if you want).
  • You can pick and choose the slices you like.

Security is the pastry for technology. Technology without security will result in losses and leakages. A proper pie without pastry is messy and just isn’t a pie.
